Chris Chase
USRowing Director of Youth Rowing
Chris Chase started coaching in 1996 when he founded the Saratoga Rowing Association, while teaching social studies at the local high school. The club grew into one of the largest in the country. In 2019, Chase left Saratoga and joined USRowing.
As a coach, Chase’s crews won or medaled 36 times at the American Schoolboys, Canadian Schoolboys, Stotesbury Cup, Youth National Championships and Head of the Fish. Saratoga athletes have gone on to accomplish much more, over 200 Saratoga athletes earning Division I rowing opportunities to date. Internationally, Coach Chase coached the coxed four at the Junior World Championships 2017 (6th Trakai), 2018 (Silver Racice), and 2019 (8th Tokyo). Chase has also run 150+regattas in and around Saratoga, including the Scholastic National Championships (twice), New York State Scholastic Rowing Championships (since 1998), Head of the Fish, Saratoga Invitational, Junior B/C Championships and Schuylerskiff.
In addition to coaching and running regattas, he is a former member of the USRowing Youth Committee 1998-2005, and hosted the U.S. Junior B Development Camp, which was designed to identify younger, talented American athletes and introduce them to sculling at an earlier age. In 2019 Chris joined USRowng as the Director of Youth Rowing, where he has responsibility for the U19 National Team, Olympic Development Programs, Masters Rowing, Safety, and the American Development Model.
Chris is the father to two boys, Tristan and Connor and is married to a very understanding wife, Cora.
