WATCH THE RECORDING OF THIS SESSION HERE. For too long, the sport of rowing has kept the doors of our boathouses closed. We have missed opportunities to invite others in, to welcome new people into our sport, to celebrate diversity and recognize that we can all be better if we row together.
This is our opportunity for change.
It is time for USRowing to lead the way and ensure that our sport begins to reflect the rich and invaluable diversity of our country. We look forward to beginning the work within our own walls by making our board and staff more diverse. We also will bring resources to our partners in the rowing community, so they too can open their doors and make sure their boathouses are welcoming and inclusive.
USRowing looks forward to hiring a full-time diversity, equity, and inclusion team member who can help shape the vision of our work and ensure we are supporting other boathouses, coaches, and rowers in the effort. We will challenge ourselves and others to look at how we coach and lead in the context of equity and inclusion. We will amplify the voices of rowers and coaches of color in our sport.
And the conversation and the work begin at this year’s convention where we will have incredible speakers and panelists from different backgrounds and life experiences to share their stories, wisdom, and insights. Whether you are a referee, a college coach, the head of a junior program, or a masters rower, we will have a place for you to learn about how to make rowing a more diverse and inclusive sport.
We are truly grateful to have such fantastic speakers and hope all of you will join us as we learn from and are inspired by one another.
Join us for DEI training that will be enlightening and accessible to everyone from junior to masters rowers, club administrators, coaches, and other community leaders.
